3. Knowledge

3a. How do you know God better?

The only way you can get to know God is to communicate with Him. This is the purpose of our daily prayer. As you spend time with God in prayer, your Christian life will grow. God wants his people to pray. Your prayers should include praise, confession, intercession, thanksgiving, and petition (prayer for personal needs)
1 Chronicles 16:11 Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always.
Matthew

6:9-13

9"This, then, is how you should pray:
   " 'Our Father in heaven,
   hallowed be your name,
    10your kingdom come,
   your will be done
       on earth as it is in heaven.
    11Give us today our daily bread.
    12Forgive us our debts,
       as we also have forgiven our debtors.
    13And lead us not into temptation,
   but deliver us from the evil one.
Mark 11:22-24 20In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. 21Peter remembered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!"
22"Have faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Philippians 4:6 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

1 John 3:21-22 21Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him.

3b. How does God speak to you?
God speaks to you in many ways. I think the 2 most important ways are through His Word and through prayer. First and foremost God speaks to you through the Bible. Here you can read what he wants you to be and how he wants you to live. God also speaks to you through prayer. Few ever hear an audible voice. Instead God impresses things on your mind while you pray. He convicts you of sin, calms your anxieties, gives you assurance, and grants you peace about right decisions.
Proverbs 3:5-6 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Psalm 37:30-31 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom,
and his tongue speaks what is just.
31 The law of his God is in his heart;
his feet do not slip.

Psalms 32:8 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.
1 Peter 2:25 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.
John 10:27 27My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:5 5But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."

3c. How do you know Gods will?

God wants you to know His will for specific decisions in your life. Some important steps include: 1) Get quiet on the inside; you have to be listening. 2)Understand that God wants you to know His will, 3) When you lay the whole matter to God, He makes the road leading to Him, more clear, 4) Each day read a few chapters of scripture. God will guide you by the principles of His Word, with the help of the Holy Spirit, 5) Let the peace of God be the umpire of your life.

A.W. Tozar said that to find God's will, we should use the Bible 80 percent of the time, circumstances and counsel 15 percent of the time, and dramatic happenings 5 percent of the time.

Psalm 32:8 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you and watch over you.
Psalms 25:9 9 He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.
James 1:5-8 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
Psalms 119:105 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path.
Proverbs 12:15 15 The way of a fool seems right to him,
but a wise man listens to advice.
Proverbs 19:20 20 Listen to advice and accept instruction,
and in the end you will be wise.

3d. How do you give your will to God?

It is one thing to know Gods will, it is another to do it. The flesh does not want you to do the will of God. There is a battle every time you desire to do Gods will. But if you have spent time listening to God in the Word and in prayer, faith will rise in your heart. And John tells us that it is this faith that conquers the world.
1 John 5:4 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
1 John 1:4-6 4We write this to make our joy complete.
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.
1 John 2:4-6 4The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But if anyone obeys his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
1 John 3:4-6 4Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

1 John 4:4-6 4Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. 5But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. 6No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
1 John 5:4-6 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
6This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
