A sign of growing up spiritually is wanting to learn how to live in the spirit. Most people who call themselves Christians do not worry about whether they know what God wants of them or not. They assume that they do know. They feel that if they are not disobeying any of the commandments, they must be doing just what God wants. They are like children who assume that it is ok to do whatever they feel like as long as their parents have not explicitly forbidden it (or at least as long as they can figure out a good way to get around their parents commands) 

            But as a man is born into the life of the spirit and begins to grow up in the life of the spirit, he needs to know more than just the commandments. The commandments only tell him how not live his life, except in a general way. We need more than the commandments; we also need to have God guide our lives.

¹ The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
² He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
³ he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
⁴ Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

⁵ You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
⁶ Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
